2016 ELVIO COGNO CASCINA NUOVA BAROLO, PIEMONT ITALY

This is a rich, layered, substantial Barolo. The nose opens up with time, and offers florals and textbook, earthiness. On the palate, the wine is well-structured with fresh red fruits, dried leather, and truly splendid tannins that persist for 2-3 full minutes. It's drinking well now, especially for a young wine, and especially in comparison to recent vintages. It will, of course, cellar nicely for decades to come, so we recommend grabbing a case, and opening the first bottle tonight.
