Jesús Yllera Crianza is a red wine made by Yllera in Boada de Roa, in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. There they control around 150 hectares of vineyard where they look for low yields per hectare to obtain a balanced and concentrated grape.
Grupo Yllera started out in Rueda and today are also present in Toro, Ribera del Duero and La Rioja.
The Jesús Yllera Crianzavineyards in Ribera del Duero are between 45 and 50 years old, are gobelet-trained and are located at a height of 700 to 1,000 metres. Their soil is clayey and sandy, so that a balance is achieved between good drainage and water retention.
The grapes for Jesús Yllera Crianza are harvested by hand, which allows an initial selection of bunches in the field. Later a second selection is made in the winery. The tanks are filled by gravity, respecting the integrity of the grape as much as possible. The grapes are not destemmed before being placed in the tanks, thereby preventing the berries from breaking, and obtaining more fruit aromas in the final wine. During fermentation the wine is pumped over daily to extract more colour and control the temperature. Lastly the wine is clarified and racked and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new and half in their second year.
