Many experts say that, due to the effects of global warming, altitude is a determining factor in producing quality wines in the southernmost vineyards of Europe, affected by a warm and continental climate. And as climate change increases, the altitude at which the vineyards are located will become increasingly important. Considering these circumstances, it is not difficult to foresee that projects like the Uribes Madero winery have the future in their favor. And it is not mere speculation: the wines born in the Pago de Calzadilla, in the Alcarria Cuenca, more than 900 meters above sea level, are undergoing an important qualitative evolution, although it would be unfair to attribute only to geographical circumstances the merit of these wines. The phenomenon would not have been possible without the dedication of the Uribes Madero family, which has applied itself with rigor and inspiration to introduce noble castes in a forgotten terroir (Huete was a wine-growing town until the middle of the 20th century) to mold such unique reds as the famous Gran Calzadilla or this brand new Opta, which seduces with its fresh character without sacrificing elegance. A high-altitude red, at the height of the circumstances, worth the redundancy.
