This is a supremely fresh take on Marsanne from Joe Swick who is a fifth-generation winemaker working vines in both Willamette Valley, Oregon and Columbia Gorge, Washington.TastingNotes: Zippy as can be, this is not your grandma's Marsanne. A quick google search plants the grape in France's Northern Rhône with a history of texture-blending. Here, however, it regales in the spotlight, and Joe Swick unfurls a PNW, macerated side of Marsanne that provides clarity, freshness - a greener aspect. Meyer lemon, underripe bosc pear, a touch of stone fruit and oregano on the nose - the finish is a family of yellow and orange sour patch fellas. Goodfellas? Sure, yes, exactly.Vinification: 100% Marsanne hand-harvested from a vineyard in Columbia Gorge, Washington, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with only the help of native yeasts and macerate (on the skins) for 30 days before pressing, in 500L neutral barrels. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered with minimal additional SO2.
